What My Kids Are Reading This Week

Summer is HERE!

And we are in Prince Edward Island – one of the most beautiful places in Canada.  Days at the beach, exploring lighthouses and eating ice cream to our heart’s content.

These are some of the books we’ve brought with us:

Chu’s Day at the Beach

by Neil Gaiman with illustrations by Adam Rex

Children's Books - Chu’s Day at the Beach by Neil Gaiman

Have you met Chu before?  He has a pretty EPIC sneeze.

In this book, he is at the beach with his parents when the bright sun triggers the biggest sneeze that tears the ocean in two.  How can he fix it and make it right?

Another sneeze of course!

Hello Lighthouse

by Sophie Blackhall

Children's Books - Hello Lighthouse by Sophie Blackhall

This book is a work of art.  We look inside a lighthouse as if it were a dollhouse and see the seasons change.

And time.

The lighthouse keeper arrives, then his wife and then their daughter.  When new technology comes in, the family moves away and the traditions of the lighthouse with them.

My Mommy, My Mama, My Brother and Me: These Are the Things We Found by the Sea

by Natalie Meisner with illustrations by Mathilde Cinq-Mars

Children's Books - My Mommy, My Mama, My Brother and Me These Are the Things We Found by the Sea by Natalie Meisner

This one takes place in Nova Scotia – but the lobster traps, buoys, and beachcombing are the same.

A lovely, rhythmic ode to days spent on the beach with your family.  Perfect for our vacation.  The watercolour illustrations perfectly capture this lovely part of the world.

Hope you enjoy these picks! And as always,

Happy Reading,
