I’ve already sung the virtues of my local children’s bookstore, Ella Minnow, here so you know how much I love going this store (so much so I even started my own story time when George was a baby which is its own hilarious story for another time). I was aiming to have a weekly book choice from my favourite bookseller, but as it takes me a week to write a paragraph, we are going to start slowly with a book of the month.
For the month of August (fun fact: we chose this book back in May. I don’t understand moms who work from home! How do you do it?) our book choice is:
A very funny little tale of a frog who is in the middle of the road and meets a cast of characters who tell him to get off the of road. It’s a bit like the game frogger and the song “Down by the Bay” for me. In that the bear or the goat are trying to avoid hitting the frog and that the imagery is silly (like a “bear on a bike” similar to ‘whale with a polkadot tail”). Funny call and response text, with a good lesson (don’t play on the road!), and vivid illustrations.
It’s supposedly for readers 4-8 but my 3-year old thinks its hilarious.
Good choice Yvette!
Happy Reading,
