I love this book – I think I happened upon it based on new books of 2017. It’s a fantastic bedtime book and one that I eventually had to buy as a permanent one for our bookshelf.
We start big and say goodnight to the planet and the clouds around the earth and end with the little boy snuggled into his mama’s pregnant belly with his dad next to him in their small world. And he says goodnight to everything like rockets and astronauts to sea creatures and flowers in between.
Why I like it:
The illustrations are dreamy and I really love how Gliori takes us from the universe right to our very small universes’ that are our family.
We got this book in one of our Lilly Post boxes (these are fantastic BTW!) and it’s been a happy addition to our evening routine.
Mother Goose invites all her characters for a bedtime story time. They all come wearing their jammies, old and new, and listen to her rhymes starring themselves. The book also contains all the nursery rhymes mentioned in the story.
Why I like it
George is really into Mother Goose right now and this is a fun book starring all the characters from the nursery rhymes he recites. We did get into an argument who Mother Goose was in the illustrations – he won’t believe me that she is the old lady on the goose – but that is neither here nor there.
I also love the illustrations which are bright, cheerful and whimsical.
This was a great find one day at my local children’s bookstore, Ella Minnow, as it’s one of those great books that entertains kids as well as the adults who read to them.
It’s about all the villains and bad guys from beloved fairy tales and nursery rhymes, getting home after a long day of being bad and how they settle in for the night. They sit around the dinner table, read stories by the fire, take long baths – all perfectly nice and polite to each other. It’s exhausting being bad!
Why I like it:
I always like stories that explore the other side of things and this shows us that the bad guys aren’t so bad. Well, not at night always. It dawned on me that George doesn’t really get these characters just yet but he enjoys this book nonetheless.
Hope you enjoy these picks! And as always,
Happy Reading,
